Celebrating 700

Everyone join me in singing, “Happy 700th anniversary to you…..!” We are posting our 700th FAQautism.com podcast today, and we haven’t even scratched the surface of the myriad of issues that arise in the daily lives of individuals with autism. The challenges keep coming for all of us, but, fortunately, the supportive autism community – family members, teachers, therapists, caregivers, medical professionals, friends, and individuals with autism – keeps churning out creative solutions.

As Dwight and I celebrate FAQautism.com’s 700th post, we are stepping up our efforts to provide practical tips and effective strategies for enhancing daily life and maximizing potential for toddlers, kids, teens, and adults with autism. Among other projects, we have formed an informal partnership with ASK, the Autism Society of Kurdistan, and are helping them gather resources for parents, teachers, and caregivers in a corner of the world that, at the moment, has limited access to adequate training and materials related to autism.

We are also launching a series of practical, nitty-gritty FAQautism.com Toolkits, each of which addresses just one facet of autism. The Toolkits are in an easy-to-access eco-friendly, on-line format. The succinct workbook / audio discussion format allows readers to dive right into an issue and to explore options applicable to their particular situation. Check out the first in the series, FAQautism.com Toolkit Pinpoint Problems, by clicking the Toolkit tab on our website http://FAQautism.com. We are excited about the release on Jan 31 of the second in the series, FAQautism.com Toolkit Change the Changeable. Both Toolkits approach challenging issues from a unique perspective, allowing us to move forward rather than spinning our wheels in the mud of frustration.

Frustration lurks around ever corner in the lives of individuals with autism who are dealing daily with their intolerance for change, sensory issues, communication barriers, and challenges on the social front. Teachers, family members, friends, and others get frustrated when we are unable to connect with our friends with autism or when “the system” goes awry. Because of the complexity of autism, no single strategy nor “cover-all-the-bases” book is going to make everything better. As one issue is resolved, another will pop to the surface. Patience is the key as people look for solutions and options for dealing with the myriad of issues that arise as a result of autism.

As we celebrate 700 at FAQautism.com, we renew our commitment to making practical tips and creative options available to a growing number of individuals whose lives are touched by autism. Forward march!
