Consider making just two New Year’s resolutions. These resolutions seem, at first glance, to counteract each other. Resolve first to intensify, and the secondly to relax. First, let’s talk about some ways to intensify your efforts to improve life for your friend with autism.
Make every effort to make each day fruitful in the coming year. Approach each day with positive vigor to set the stage for your friend with autism to have frequent opportunities to learn new skills, develop relationships, and maximize his potential. Capture the moment and take advantage of every window of opportunity. Don’t put things off for tomorrow or for some future year.
Now is the time to take purposeful steps to enrich his life, to enjoy personal relationships, and to excel in areas of strength while learning to compensate in deficit areas. Encourage your friend with autism to live life to the fullest. Never give up, no matter how frustrating the situation. Avoid mediocrity by instilling a sense of adventure and discovery in every day. Invest time now to gradually build new skills and new relationships. The effort will make a real difference in the long run. Enjoy life in spite of bumps in the road. Your intense efforts will pay off in the long run.
In tomorrow’s podcast, we will discuss the polar opposite of intensity: relaxation. Hope you can join the conversation. Meanwhile, make every effort to live life to the fullest!
