VODcast: Tyler’s Conversation

You can see in this Seesmic video that my friend Tyler, an older teen with autism, enjoys this conversation with people who are thousands of miles away. As a toddler, Tyler was frustrated by limited language and the inability to communicate. Many folks in his life worked hard to help him learn to use words and sentences to express his opinions, needs, and emotions. Progress has been slow, but Tyler demonstrates in this video that he is able to engage other people in conversation, to express his thoughts fairly clearly, and to stay somewhat focused on the topic. FAQautism: Tyler talks to Seesmic friendsTyler, 17, is a fine young musician who has been involved in music therapy since he was 3. Initially he just screamed and flapped his hands. Gradually he learned to use words to communicate, decreasing his frustration and allowing his natural piano and guitar skills to emerge.
