I have a brother who remembers certain pictures from when he was born. He also has autism, and he says he remembers our mom holding him, and that he was under a lot of trauma during his birth. He can also remember everyone's birthday dates and instances which no one in my family can recall, such as the time my dad said he played his trumbone. Neither my mom nor me could remember that time, but my brother could recall it with pefect memory, as well as remember that he was twelve years old when it happened.

How nice to hear from you, Ramesh. Several of my friends with autism have the extraordinary ability to discern dates, just like your son. I am interested in "brainstorming" with you about ways your son could harness his skill. Send me an e-mail at <talk@FAQautism.com> so we can get the conversation started. I look forward to hearing from you. My best to you and your son. + Cathy

Hi,

I am a parent from India. I read your columns regularly to help my 18 year old son who is a High Functioning Autistic, with Aspergers who is good in academics and one-on-one learning but low on social skills and group learning. I find most of your columns to be highly practical and useful and directly applicable in real-life situations! Thanks a lot for your service and knowledge/experience sharing!

My son has this extra-ordinary ability to tell the day for any date / any year / any century. He also knows the timetable details of almost all the trains in India! He does not necessarily exhibit this "skill" to everyone.

How do you suggest we harness this skill to be useful in real life?

Thanks and Regards
